About Us

In August 1975 John Rogers established Shutter Shack as one of the original tenants of the new Rupert Square Shopping Centre. Originally a fully-stocked camera store that also sold luggage, Shutter Shack evolved with the times. The luggage didn’t last long, but in the late 1970s John and Pat Rogers added The Yarn Barn in the store adjacent to Shutter Shack. In the early 1980s they closed The Yarn Barn and added that space to Shutter Shack to create their “Prints Rupert” gallery—taking the name from the local Prints Rupert Camera Club.

In 2005 Shutter Shack / Prints Rupert moved to a building closer to the waterfront, and added a souvenir division that catered to cruise ship passengers and other visitors. From the camera store created 30 years earlier, Shutter Shack and Prints Rupert had become a tourist destination.

At the end of 2018 John Rogers decided to retire, and Bruce and Lonnie Wishart assumed the reins of Shutter Shack. In the 1990s Bruce and Lonnie were known as the publisher / editor and advertising manager, respectively, of one of Hollinger’s newspapers in Prince Rupert, and established a livelihood in Prince Rupert in photography and communications. As customers of Shutter Shack for a quarter-century, Bruce and Lonnie knew as well as any Shutter Shack’s fine reputation for quality and customer service, and are proud to uphold this tradition as the business begins its countdown toward its 50th anniversary.
